Winter Flowers- Forcing Bulbs
I learned about forcing bulbs from one of my co workers. It
turns out, you don't have to wait until spring to get the beautiful flowers
that grow from bulbs, you can have interior bulbs in the winter!
I tried to grow some paperwhites in soil around January.
They grew and grew their shoots but never produced any flowers. A few weeks
ago, my co-worker and I got together to make some arrangements to force bulbs.
(I used crocus bulbs) I put together this long one and it took off so well about
a week ago, I am so proud of these bad boys (I couldn't wait for them to flower
before I share this post with you)
You want to make your own, right? It is so simple!
Just have a container, fill it with either stones or potting soil. (stones were
easier for me, and in a glass container so I could see the roots growing). Fill
the water just to the base of the bulbs, this will be enough to initiate root
growth, but not wet enough to induce root rot.
1. Get container, preferably glass
2. Fill with pebbles or stones of sorts or potting mix
3. Add flowers
3. Fill vase with water
It's that simple!
The only maintenance will be to add more water. This part is a no brainer when you can see through
your container. Enjoy growing your interior flowers to help with the winter
blues!!!
